Switchable Privacy Glass

 What is Smart Glass?

Smart Glass

Innovation and technology rise gives new prospects of development in every field. Even the mobile phones that we carry get updated by the companies to the latest version in two to three months.

The glass that is used in commercial and residential complexes has also been not left untouched by the rise in innovation.

Smart glass is a technique in which the glass controls the amount of light and ultraviolet radiations entering the room, according to either the voltage applied or by switching to the power button.

How Smart Glass Works?

Smart glasses use a film layer that is either laminated or filled between the two sheets of glass.

They consist of a formulation or emulsion that aligns differently when electricity is applied to them.

In the absence of voltage, when the molecules are randomly aligned, it blocks the passage of light, and when charged, the molecules polarize, allowing the light to pass through it.

Types of smart glass:

There are primarily two types of smart glass. These are defined based on the requirement of electric charge to turn opaque to clear or vice versa.

I. Active glass- This type of glass requires an electric charge to change the appearance and functionality of glass.

There are various types of active switchable glass technology, and their typical application includes:

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal-These are installed in places that require a certain amount of privacy, such as office meeting rooms and conference halls.

These turn opaque when an electric field is applied to them. A PDLC Film Manufacturer ensures that it delivers the highest quality glass to the buyer to last for a long year.

Suspended Particle Device- It uses emulsion to change the display of the glass. It turns dark once the electricity is turned off, and if the voltage is decreased, it fades to dark and ultimately turns opaque.

Electrochromic glass- these are the coated glass that is used mainly in windows. They slowly tint for shading in response to the sunlight applied.

II. Passive glass-These are the two types of passive glass-

Photochromic glass-They tint according to the sunlight falls on them. These are mainly used in eyeglasses.

Thermochromic glasses-They adjust their opaqueness according to the temperature. These are mainly used in windows of offices and hotels.

What is switchable privacy glass?
